Sandra Oh reveals she won’t return to Grey’s Anatomy ‘anytime soon’

Sandra Oh has revealed why Grey’s Anatomy fans shouldn’t expect her to return to the hit medical drama series.

Oh starred as Cristina Yang for ten seasons from the pilot episode in 2005 until 2014.

While her co-stars Chyler Leigh, Kate Walsh, and recently Jessica Capshaw have all come back to the show years after leaving, it seems Oh has no plans to do the same.

“I will say, not anytime soon,” she told Entertainment Tonight when asked about fans wishing for her to make a cameo.

While a return seems far off, Oh told the outlet at The Sympathizer premiere that the character she played for nearly ten years is “of course, near and dear to my heart”.

“I hope people feel like I did my job, which is that I brought to life a character and she had a growth over 10 seasons, and that it was true,” she said at the Los Angeles event. The Sympathizer Los Angeles premiere.

“She was ready to move on, and so have I.”

Oh rose to fame for her role as the headstrong and ambitious cardiothoracic surgeon Cristina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy.

“Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go,” she told The Hollywood Reporter at the time she was exiting the show.

“It’s such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well.”

Years later during a 2021 interview on Sunday TODAY, Oh admitted her sudden rise to fame following the series was “traumatic” due to losing her anonymity.

“I went from not being able to go out, like, hiding in restaurants, to then being able to manage attention, manage expectation, while not losing the sense of self.”

During Variety’s 2022 Actors on Actors series, Oh revealed her Grey’s Anatomy fame made her “very, very sick” as she struggled with the physical toll of the spotlight.

“I learned that I had to take care of my health first,” Oh said. “But that’s not only your body. That is your soul. That is definitely your mind.

Since leaving Grey’s Anatomy, Oh went on to notably star as the lead in the hit series, Killing Eve alongside Jodie Comer from 2018 to 2022.
