Justin Bieber reportedly refused to take part in Usher’s Super Bowl performance as he ‘just wasn’t feeling it’

While singing sensation Usher won rave reviews from critics and fans for his lively performance at the Super Bowl on Sunday with a host of guest stars, there was one notable performer missing – Justin Bieber.

Usher and Bieber have been friends for years and Usher signed the young Canadian singer to his record label he co-owns with manager Scooter Braun.

And now, according to Page Six, Baby singer Bieber, 29, didn’t partake in the performance because he “just wasn’t feeling it”.

A source allegedly told the publication: “There’s no bad blood between Usher and Justin. Justin just wasn’t up for it – he just wasn’t feeling it.”

At the Super Bowl on Sunday, Bieber was spotted sitting in the crowd with his model wife, Hailey Bieber.

Bieber suffers from Ramsay Hunt syndrome and Lyme disease – something which he has been open about in the past.

The syndrome can flare up in individuals who experience a shingles outbreak and is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox.

In 2022, Usher gave fans an update on Bieber’s health after he postponed a number of tour dates after the diagnosis.

Usher told Extra TV at the time: “Seeing him on vacation, we managed to hang out with each other, and I think that whatever he may be experiencing right now, it’s actually really great to see that he has the support from his fans and his family.”

He added: “As an artist, I think we are all going to experience some things that people may not necessarily understand,” he said, noting that being a professional performer “comes with a great deal of pressure.”

“I think he has taken the world on a journey, and that journey I am happy that I was at the beginning of and I am actually still a part of to this day, as a friend,” he said.

Bieber has also been open in the past about his battle with mental health, telling US Vogue he had depression.

“I started really feeling myself too much. ‘People love me, I’m the s—,’ that’s honestly what I thought,” he told the magazine. “I got very arrogant and cocky. I was wearing sunglasses inside.

“I got really depressed on tour,” continued Bieber, who cancelled his 2017 Purpose world tour in 2017 saying at the time that he wanted his “mind heart and soul to be sustainable.”

“I haven’t talked about this, and I’m still processing so much stuff that I haven’t talked about,” he told Vogue. “I was lonely. I needed some time.”

The superstar performed three decades of his music, with the NFL giving him an extra two minutes to cram it all in.

Where most half time performers are allocated a 12-minute slot, Usher was given 15.

He kicked off the performance with Caught Up from his 2004 album Confessions.

Wearing an all white outfit custom Dolce and Gabbana outfit with a silver sequined top, Usher showed off some impressive moves before bringing out his first surprise guest of the night.

Alicia Keys was sat at a red grand piano in a stunning Dolce and Gabbana bedazzled red jumpsuit singing If I Aint Got You, before launching into a duet with Usher.

Later, he was joined on stage by Lil John, Ludacris and Will.i.am.
