Jon Bon Jovi and ex bandmate Richie Sambora ‘not in contact’, frontman says

Jon Bon Jovi has revealed why he and former bandmate Richie Sambora have fallen out of contact.

The pair were childhood friends and members of the widely popular rock band Bon Jovi. However Sambora, 64, left the band suddenly during their 2013 world tour – hours before they were due to perform in Calgary.

Phil X jumped on stage to fill in for the guitarist and went on to become an official member of the band, Sambora did not return.

Eleven years after the shock departure, Jon Bon Jovi has revealed the pair still do not speak.

“We’re not in contact because he’s not in the organisation any longer,” Bon Jovi told Ultimate Classic Rock.

With Sambora having left for family reasons, Bon Jovi shared that there’s no bad blood but circumstance has caused the falling out.

“Doesn’t mean that there’s not love forever, but it’s 11 years ago that he just didn’t show up anymore,” Bon Jovi explained.

“Phil X had to show up one time, and then Phil X had to show up another time. And then, again, there’s a show that night. What are we gonna do?” he continued.

The update comes as the two musicians are due to feature in the upcoming Bon Jovi docuseries Thank You Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.

Debuting on April 26, the four-part series will document Bon Jovi’s rise to stardom.

Ultimate Classic Rock asked if Bon Jovi had spoken with Sambora about the docuseries to which he responded: “not a word.”

“They interviewed Richie in London. I wasn’t there. I had nothing to do with it,” he continued.

Directed by Gotham Chopra, Bon Jovi clarified that he had little to do with the production of the docuseries.

“This is not us behind the scenes pulling strings,” he explained.

“I still haven’t seen the [finished] product,” he continued.

Alongside the docuseries, the band are due to release their new album Forever in June.
